Care + Cleaning
Each piece is hand-dyed with natural plant dyes using heritage techniques. Minor fading is normal, and
proper care will help preserve color, texture, and the life of each piece.
Upon Arrival
- We take great care in handling and shipping every garment. In the rare event that you find small black particles on the fabric, these are residual plant dye fragments. Gently shake or lightly rub them with your hands to remove them.
- Minor creases may appear from folding during shipment. Cotton and linen respond well to low-heat steaming or ironing to restore their shape. Silk should be steamed gently, avoiding direct contact with the fabric, while animal fibers such as wool, mohair, cashmere, and Merino wool benefit from low-heat ironing with a pressing cloth. Avoid high-heat ironing for all fabrics.
Wearing
- Before first wear, for dark-colored garments, we highly recommend a quick rinse in cold water without detergent to remove any residual plant dye and help reduce the risk of color transfer.
- Test for color transfer before wearing with light-colored garments. This is especially recommended for dark or vibrant plant-dyed pieces
- All plant-dyed pieces are pre-rinsed 3–4 times before release, yet slight color release may still occur during early wears or washes.
- During the first few wears, avoid prolonged contact with light-colored surfaces such as bags, seats, and upholstery.
- After intense activity or sweating, promptly wash plant-dyed garments to help maintain their color and quality.
General Care
- We recommend washing dark and light colors separately.
- Natural dyes continue to evolve over time. Extended sun exposure may cause colors to deepen or soften depending on the dye material used. This is part of the natural aging process.
Washing
- Hand wash preferred. Use cold water only. Cold water helps stabilize plant pigments and preserve color depth.
- Wash separately from light-colored garments, especially during early washes.
- Avoid soaking for extended periods. Long soaking may weaken dye bonds and cause uneven fading.
- Machine wash (if necessary): cold or extra cold cycle only, inside a laundry bag. Select Hand Wash or Delicate settings. Linen, wool, and silk garments are not recommended for machine washing; we suggest hand washing these fabrics with cold water and a gentle detergent to preserve color, texture, and shape.
- No dry cleaning. Chemical solvents may damage natural dyes and fiber structure.
Detergent
- Use a mild, neutral ph detergent only. No bleach, optical brighteners, or enzyme-based formulas.
- Harsh chemicals may strip natural pigments and weaken fibers.
- Always dissolve detergent fully in water before washing. Never pour detergent directly onto fabric to prevent localized discoloration.
Drying
- Hang dry in shade, inside out. This protects surface color and fiber structure.
- Avoid direct sunlight, tumble drying, and high heat. UV exposure and heat accelerate pigment breakdown and fading.
- Gently reshape garments before drying to maintain natural form.
- Tumble dryers are not recommended.
Ironing & Steaming
- Low heat steaming is recommended to remove wrinkles and restore shape.
- Use low to medium heat ironing only when necessary. High heat is not recommended for plant-dyed garments.
- Persimmon-dyed pieces should be ironed with extra caution and low temperature to prevent unintended color changes.
Storage
- Cotton, linen, and silk garments may be hung using proper hangers after wear.
- Knitwear and wool garments (Merino, Cashmere, Mohair) should be folded and stored flat to prevent stretching and shoulder distortion.
- Store all items in a dry, well-ventilated environment. Avoid prolonged sunlight exposure and humidity.
Natural Variation & Aging
Due to the nature of plant dyeing, even when using the same dye materials, each garment will display subtle color variations.
Gradual fading, tonal shifts, and surface changes are natural characteristics of plant-dyed textiles. With proper care, each piece
will age beautifully and develop a unique patina over time.
